Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah (born 15 July 1946) is the 29th and current Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei, as well as the country’s first and incumbent Prime Minister. The eldest son of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III, he became Sultan on 4 October 1967 after his father’s abdication and was formally crowned on 1 August 1968. Educated at Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur and trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he has reigned for over 47 years, making him one of the world’s longest-serving monarchs. He is estimated to be worth around $20 billion and resides in a palace with 1,800 rooms. The Sultan has had three wives and has eight children. In 1992, he celebrated his Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years on the throne.
