China

The national emblem of the People’s Republic of China features Tiananmen Gate within a red circle, topped by five stars symbolizing the Communist Party and the four Maoist social classes, using red and gold elements characteristic of socialist emblems. Political legitimacy remains contested between the PRC and the Republic of China (Taiwan), with neither universally recognized as representing all of China.

The Republic of China uses the Blue Sky with a White Sun emblem, originally designed in 1895 by Lu Haodong, which appears on its national emblem, flag canton, naval jack, and as the symbol of the Kuomintang. The emblem’s twelve sun rays represent the months and traditional Chinese hours, symbolizing progress, and its circular form reflects broader East Asian symbolic traditions.
