Shami Goat

The Shami goat, also known as the Damascus, Aleppo, or Baladi goat, is native to the Middle East, particularly Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine. The breed is named after Damascus, Syria, and is renowned for its striking appearance and noble character. Historically, British exporters referred to it as the "Damascus goat" after exporting large numbers to Cyprus. The breed is a major dairy source in the region and is found in various countries, including Cyprus, Egypt, Iraq, and Greece. While its exact origins are unclear, Shami goats are mentioned in classical Arabic literature, religious texts, and folklore, highlighting their distinctive traits and long history.
