Czech Republic | 1996 | 50 Haleru | Coat of Arms

Czech Republic

The greater coat of arms of the Czech Republic combines the medieval arms of Bohemia (a silver double-tailed lion on red), Moravia (a red-and-silver chequered eagle on blue), and Silesia (a black eagle with a clover stalk on gold), representing the three historical Czech lands. The Bohemian lion also serves alone as the lesser coat of arms. Although only part of Silesia lies within the Czech Republic, its full historical arms are used, analogous to the UK’s use of Irish arms. The present design was adopted in 1992 following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
