Black Drongo

The Black Drongo (Dicrurus macrocercus) is a small, wholly black Asian bird with a forked tail, commonly found from southwest Iran to Indonesia. It lives in open farmland and light forests, feeding on insects and often perching conspicuously on wires or bare branches. Known for fiercely attacking much larger birds, it is nicknamed the “King Crow,” and its aggressive defence benefits smaller species nesting nearby. Once treated as a subspecies of the African fork-tailed drongo, it is now recognized as a full species. Introduced to several Pacific islands, it has become invasive, threatening native bird populations.
