Crowned seahorse

The Crowned seahorse (Hippocampus coronatus) is a seahorse species endemic to Japan, inhabiting subtidal aquatic beds. Seahorses generally occupy shallow, sheltered tropical and temperate waters worldwide, including seagrass beds, estuaries, reefs, and mangroves. Various species occur across the Pacific and Atlantic, with some colonies found in European waters. In the Mediterranean, three species—H. guttulatus, H. hippocampus, and H. fuscus—are present. Seahorses are territorial: males remain within very small home ranges, while females roam much more widely.
