Summer Olympics 2012
Gymnastics
Gymnastics at the 2012 London Olympic Games comprised
artistic, rhythmic, and trampolining disciplines, contested at the North
Greenwich Arena and Wembley Arena between 28 July and 12 August. A total of 54
medals were awarded, with China emerging as the most successful nation,
securing five gold medals and 12 overall. The Games marked historic first
gymnastics golds for Brazil and South Korea, while Russia’s Yevgeniya Kanayeva
became the first gymnast to win consecutive Olympic titles in the rhythmic individual
all-around. Qualification for the events was determined through results at the
2011 world championships in artistic, rhythmic, and trampolining gymnastics, as
well as Olympic test events held in early 2012.
