Palm Oil tree
Elaeis guineensis, or the African oil palm, is the main source of palm oil. It is native to West and Southwest Africa (between Angola and Gambia) and is now naturalized in regions such as Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Sumatra, Central America, and the West Indies.
Humans
have used oil palms for about 5,000 years in West Africa, and palm oil dating
to 3000 BCE was found in a tomb at Abydos in Egypt, likely introduced there by Arab
traders.
