Summer Olympics 2012
Modern Pentathalon
The modern pentathlon at the 2012 London Olympics took
place from 11 to 12 August, with 36 athletes competing in both the men’s and
women’s events. Competitions were held at the Copper Box, Aquatics Centre, and
Greenwich Park. David Svoboda of the Czech Republic won the men’s event, while
Lithuania’s Laura Asadauskaitė claimed the women’s title. The sport comprised
fencing, swimming, horse riding, and a combined running and shooting event,
which was introduced for the first time at these Games. Laser guns replaced
pistols, improving safety and reducing costs. Transportation between venues was
identified as a key organizational challenge.
