Family Planning - FAO
1974 was a major turning point for Indonesia’s Keluarga Berencana (KB) family-planning program. By the end of 1974, the number of family-planning acceptors reached 1.5 million, compared with only 53,100 in 1969. The program expanded beyond Java and Bali to 10 outer provinces. Under President Suharto’s Second Five-Year Plan (Repelita II), population control became part of national economic development planning. The expansion laid the foundation for village-level contraceptive distribution from early 1975.
