Carabinieri  - 180th Anniversary of Foundation

The Carabinieri is Italy’s national military police force, serving both military and civilian populations. Founded as the police force of the Kingdom of Sardinia, it became a principal force of unified Italy. The Carabinieri joined Italy’s Armed Forces in 2000 and has participated in peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. During World War II, Vice Brigadier Salvo D’Acquisto became a symbol of sacrifice after being executed by German forces while taking responsibility for an alleged offence to save civilians. In 2004, the Carabinieri was also tasked with establishing the Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units to support international peacekeeping training.
