Universal Adult Franchise
Sri Lanka introduced universal adult suffrage in 1931,
allowing all adults to vote regardless of race, sex, religion, or social
status. To mark its 50th anniversary, a five-rupee commemorative coin was
issued in 1981, featuring the old Parliament building and the denomination in
Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
